First four done, Day one now over with... it’s time for Day TWO of the NCAA tournament.
Yesterday was a lot of fun. If you missed the action, there were 3 big upsets as 12 seed Oregon State beat Tennessee (way to go, Vols), 13 seed North Texas dropped Purdue (nice job, Matt Painter), and 15 seed Oral Roberts dropped Ohio State in overtime (don’t have 2012 flashbacks, people).
Otherwise, the two 1 seeds (Illinois and Baylor) took care of business, and the only real upsets were 9 seeded Wisconsin beat the 8 seed North Carolina pretty handily (bye, Caleb).
It would be pretty ironic if Mizzou could win today, since it would mean both Caleb Love and E.J. Liddell will be sitting at home while the program they spurned for greener pastures advances into the tournament. Go Mizzou, let’s make it happen!
Former Mizzou Opponents Edition:
LSU (8) vs St. Bonaventure (9) — 1:45 pm, TNT
Many Mizzou fans’ favorite team to hate, the Fighting Strong-Ass-Offers of Louisiana State. Will Wade takes on the A-10 champs and a program you KNOW isn’t cheating to get players. So root for the Bonnies, but realize it isn’t the worst thing is LSU makes a run because it’ll make Mizzou look better, and all those wins will be vacated anyways...

Alabama (2) vs Iona (15) — 4:00 pm, TBS
The new modern College Basketball team takes on perhaps the most innovative coach in modern basketball history. The Hall of Famer versus the young hotshot. It could be a fun game, but most likely Alabama’s defense will be a bit too much for Iona.
Oregon (7) vs. VCU (10) — 9:57 pm, TNT
The early win over Oregon set a big tone for Missouri in their non-conference slate, and surprised a lot of fans into thinking their Tigers might be pretty good. Oregon has been a little up and down, but they’re talented and have been playing much better recently. They take on Mike Rhoades’ VCU squad who struggle to score the ball, but have a player named ‘Bones’ Hyland.
Just expect a good game Edition:
Colorado (5) vs Georgetown (12) — 12:15 pm, CBS
Colorado is good, but overseeded. Georgetown has an ugly resume, and wouldn’t be here if they hadn’t won the Big East tournament, but Patrick Ewing’s team has been playing much more inspired basketball and they play very tough defense. This is another potential 5-12 upset.
Creighton (5) vs. UC Santa Barbara (12) — 3:30 pm, TruTV
While we’re talking about 5-12’s... Creighton is a team that runs hot and cold, and UCSB is a really well-coached squad out of the Big West conference who are top 70 in KenPom. They shoot the ball well and don’t turn the ball over, which is something you have to do if you want to pull the upset.
USC (6) vs Drake (11) — 4:30 pm, TNT
I really like this USC squad. Evan Mobley is a supremely talented beanpole who impacts the game on both ends of the floor and will be a top 5 pick in this year’s NBA Draft. Drake is coming off a big win over Wichita State, but facing a good and underrated USC squad may put them in a difficult spot.
Virginia (4) vs. Ohio (13) — 7:15 pm, TruTV
Virginia is coming off a COVID pause and we don’t know if they’ve been cleared to play yet. We’re all assuming they are, but even if they are there’s no telling how cohesive they’ll be. Tony Bennett is an elite basketball coach, but he's not a magician (at least not that I’m aware of), and Jason Preston and his Ohio Bobcats are actually pretty danged good. They’ve won 9 of their last 10 games, and Preston looked every bit the NBA prospect.
The rest of the games:
- (4) Florida State vs (13) UNC Greensboro — 12:45 pm, TruTV
- (3) Kansas vs (14) Eastern Washington — 1:15 pm, TBS
- (1) Michigan vs (16) Texas Southern — 3 pm, CBS
- (2) Iowa vs (15) Grand Canyon — 6:25 pm, TBS
- (7) UConn vs (10) Maryland — 7:10 pm, CBS
- (8) Oklahoma vs (9) Missouri — 7:25 pm, TNT
- (1) Gonzaga vs (16) Norfolk State — 9:20 pm, TBS
- (6) BYU vs (11) UCLA — 9:40 pm, CBS
- (3) Texas vs (14) Abilene Christian — 9:50 pm, TruTV

The women had a 10 point lead going into the 4th quarter but couldn’t hold off Fresno State. They play Arizona State in the consolation bracket of the WNIT at 11am today on FloHoops. You can also listen to the broadcast on the MUTigers app.
