Mizzou “finally rewarded” in 2021 for previous years of success
Mizzou Softball is set to host its first NCAA Tournament regional since 2016, but the program isn’t unfamiliar with the postseason in recent seasons. Rather, the luck of the draw has been against them.
Speaking to the Columbia Tribune about the opportunity in front of them, head coach Larissa Anderson spoke about the program’s last few NCAA Tournament experiences, including getting bounced by eventual champion UCLA a few years ago.
“Finally, we’re rewarded for our success,” Anderson said. “It’s been a grind for the last three, four years for these players. The three years that I’ve been here, first year we got sent out to UCLA, who goes on to win the national championship. Before that, they get sent to Oregon. So they’ve had some tough draws[.]”
As the Tigers prepare for their opening round game against Illinois-Chicago, senior Hatti Moore says the team has a lot of confidence, especially in its potent offense.
“I don’t know how other teams pitch to us,” Missouri catcher Hatti Moore said. “Every single person our lineup is solid, and it’s never like someone comes up in a lineup and it’s like, ‘Uh.’ We know they’re going to get the job done. That’s an amazing feeling because I’ve been on teams before that that’s not the case.”
There’s still some time before the Tigers take the field again, though, and Twitter felt like celebrating a little more on Monday. Honestly, I’m not mad about it — watching fellow Tigers experience joy never gets old.
