BREAKING: Akayleb Evans transfers to Mizzou

The Tulsa transfer decided he wanted more playing time with his old position coach in an SEC schedule

NCAA Football: Tulsa at Memphis Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

Ever since the Tulsa tandem of Allie Green IV and Akayleb Evans announced their entry into the transfer portal, Missouri fans have been longing for at least one of the all-conference, pro-prospect cornerbacks to come to Mizzou and help lead a young, but deep, cornerback squad for his last year of edigility.

Then Jarvis Ware, Chris Mills, and JaDarrius Perkins transferred away from Mizzou and Missouri fans REALLY wanted one of them to come to CoMo, except now it was more out of necessity rather than a luxury.

Fear not, Tiger fans. Akayleb Evans is on his way.

Get to know: Akayleb Evans

Hometown: McKinney, TX

High School: McKinney

Position: Cornerback

Ht/Wt: 6’2”/188

Rivals Ranking: 5.4 (2-star)

247Composite Ranking: 0.7958 (2-star)

Total announced offers: 17

Offers to note: Texas, Notre Dame, Georgia, Texas Tech

Thanks to COVID, Evans is a fifth-year Redshirt Junior so he technically has two years left to play. However, given his quality of play - and the fact that he’s jumping up in competition - if all goes well it’s expected that he will declare for the NFL after this season.

Over 23 starts at Tulsa, Evans compiled 82 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 11 passes broken up, and a forced fumble.

Missouri might not be able to offer Evans the chance to win a National Championship but there’s a vacant starting spot, his old position coach is on the Tiger staff, and he gets to experience the grind of an SEC schedule.

Welcome to your new home, Akayleb. Give ‘em hell.
