The Missouri Tigers lost a pivotal, heartbreaking game to the Kentucky Wildcats 35-28 on the road in their SEC opener on Saturday night. It was certainly a missed opportunity for a notable win — so, it’s probably safe to say Mizzou isn’t anywhere close to sniffing these rankings anytime soon. Oh well, there’s still a lot of season left to play.
Regardless, it was still a fun Week 2 of the College Football season, where a lot of people considered it to be a weak slate going into the weekend. However, there will still some upsets of note on Saturday. A total of five ranked teams lost, with three losing to unranked teams. That included No. 15 Texas losing on the road to their future conference opponent Arkansas. Welcome to the SEC, right?
With Arkansas’ 40-21 win over Texas, the Razorbacks come in at No. 20 in this week’s AP Top 25, giving the conference seven ranked teams in the latest poll. And at the moment, Missouri’s back end of their schedule is loaded with ranked opponents, with four out of their final six games of the season against teams currently ranked in the Top 25. There will certainly be plenty of opportunities for Drinkwitz’s team to get a signature win.
Kentucky got some more receiving votes after beating Mizzou, but you can argue that the Wildcats should be much closer, or even in the Top 25. That’s a pretty dang good football team the Tigers saw on Saturday night.
