Rowe chooses local, Mizzou Gymnastics final tune-up before 1/6 season opener

Mizzou Basketball & Gymnastics Links for Wednesday, December 13, 2023

Thank you for staying in CoMo, Aaron Rowe.

We’ll start today’s links post here. This is a big commit. Huge. Great, great start for the 2025 class.

Enjoy these interview tidbits from KOMU’s Ben Arnet.

And finally, this warms my heart. One has to think that how Gates protected Zay last year really stood out to recruits. He's really a player’s coach.

Black & Gold Gym Recap

Sunday afternoon was the last opportunity preseason to watch the 2023-2024 gymnastics team before the season tip-off in early January, and it did not disappoint. With three judges to hand out scores like a real meet, it was time for the team to show off their progression. How was this different than the last two showcases, you ask? Well, we got full-out floor routines, friends, and they were entertaining as hell. Coach Jackie is doing a phenomenal job with the choreo.

A few notes before we get started: Jocelyn Moore sat out this meet — she didn’t have any visible injuries so don’t fear — and Addison Lawrence continues to work her way back from hip surgery. Courtney Woods, who participated last time around, was not in the lineup, and neither was freshman Kennedy Griffin for the second consecutive showcase. Rayna Light and Hannah Horton, both freshmen, competed in every event, which is great for the future. Since I’ve been covering the team, Sienna Schreiber has been the lone all-around competitor, and because this is her final year of eligibility, this is important!

Let’s dive vault right in. I have attempted to decipher a team score for each event, but given there were 7-8 competitors on each apparatus and only 5 scores count, I wasn’t 100% sure I was doing it correctly. I determined my scorers based on the lineups given on twitter ahead of time, which typically feature the exhibitioners at the end.

Additionally, if I had scores from the last preseason meet (recap here), I’ve included them below for comparison’s sake. I didn’t include floor since they didn’t do full tumbling passes.

Side Note: This is semi-close to correct, as my scores added together are 196.925, and the announced team score is 197.00. Hmph. Not too shabby, Karen. Not too shabby.

Completely unrelated, but I’ll miss you, Captain Holt. This one makes me so sad, you guys. This man was an absolute gem. :(
