Mizzou Football momentum shows no signs of stopping

Mizzou Football Links for Friday, December 14

Let’s start off by congratulating The Shredder (or is it Schredder to more closely match his name?), the Muscle Hamster, the D-II Truman State legend, the Burlworth Trophy winnin’ Cody Schrader, who was named Mizzou’s first consensus All-American in 9 years. NINE years, you guys! Since Stingray Shane Ray! In case you’re wondering, to earn consensus honors, you have to be awarded First Team honors by two outlets. In this case, The Sporting News and Associated Press saw Cody for his awesomeness.

While not as decidedly cool as winning consensus honors, the last of the All-American teams, courtesy of AFCA, came out on Thursday, and Cody added another second-team award, to go along with those received from... a lot of other publications. I am not sure anyone left him out, and if they did, they’re stupid jerks.

Here’s more on the GWOOAT (Greatest Walk-On of All Time, just go with it) from the Post Dispatch’s Eli Hoff:

The breakout Mizzou tailback, who finished the season with 1,489 rushing yards to lead the Southeastern Conference, won the Burlsworth Trophy, which is given to the nation’s best player who began his career as a walk-on. Schrader also was named first-team All-SEC, a finalist for the Doak Walker Award for the country’s premier tailback and finished eighth in Heisman Trophy voting.

Cody wasn’t the only Tiger to hear their name mentioned for All-America honors, however. Per ESPN+, TE Brett Norfleet made ESPN’s freshman All-America team! Way to go, Brett!

TE: Brett Norfleet, Missouri: Had Luke Haz at Arkansas not been injured, he likely would have occupied this spot, but Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz is convinced Norfleet is the best freshman tight end in the country, even with modest numbers (17 receptions, 195 yards, 3 TDs).

Side note: I don’t like the way this is worded. Kinda takes away from his honor, doesn’t it? Let the young man have his flowers!

And that’s not all, friends! Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz was named a finalist for the Bear Bryant Award, which honors the nation’s top coaches while also raising money for the American Heart Association.

Y’all, everything football-related seems to be coming up CoMo these days. From the awards to the commitments to the recruiting... So much is going on that Coach Loop is out here “complaining” about his notifications going off, ha. Honestly, what a great problem to have at this point. MIZ, babyyyyyyyyy.

The notifications obviously indicate some sort of recruiting success, so let’s see who the Tigers picked up, shall we?

This one was wild, y’all...

I was slammed at work on Thursday so I missed all this hubbub, but wow. It sounds like everyone thought he was headed to Oxford.... until he wasn’t.

Per Calum McAndrew at the Trib:

Lacy is the No. 19-ranked running back in the Class of 2024, per On3’s industry rankings. The running back, who is listed at 6 foot, 205 pounds, took a visit to Missouri in November, shortly after he announced a decommitment from Nebraska.

And Kewan wasn’t the only recent RB to commit to The Zou. Marcus Carroll also pledged his commitment just a few short days ago, and Gabe and Jarod went Live on PowerMizzou to chat with the new commit. Good stuff here.

And while that’s all the commits for now, the Tigers don’t appear to be done snatching up some talent.

Enter Courtney Crutchfield.

And Georgia’s Darris Smith.

On to the Links!

Just two weeks to the Cotton Bowl!
