Dawn Sullivan added a third member to this year’s transfer class today with setter Marina Crownover, a redshirt freshman from Texas. The Austin, Texas native appeared in 10 matches and 11 sets this season for the Longhorns, totaling 13 assists and seven digs after taking a redshirt year in 2022. Crownover will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Let’s Meet Marina Crownover
- From: Austin, Texas
- Last University: University of Texas
- High School: St. Stephen’s Episcopal
- Position: Setter
- Ht: 5-10
Crownover will come in and compete with Sarah White to backup SEC All-Freshman Team member Sierra Dudley, who is the present and future at the position for Mizzou. While the newest member of the Tigers didn’t play often for Texas, there is value in adding players from such a successful program, and I would be surprised if Crownover came in with the expectation of riding the bench for the entire season.
Sullivan is likely hoping to give Dudley more time to rest throughout the year and add another layer of protection if the soon-to-be sophomore struggles in a match. Good teams have a strong starting lineup. Great teams have a strong starting lineup and depth that can replace the starters without a significant drop-off. With Mizzou aiming for a Sweet 16 appearance next season, this team needs to be great, and this moves them closer to accomplishing that.
