Rock M Reader Awards: Mizzou Football 2023

Let’s hear it, Tiger fans. What moments and players represented the best of the 2023 season?

NCAA Football: Cotton Bowl-Missouri at Ohio State Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

It can be easy to get caught up in our own bubble as writers.

The Rock M Nation staff — despite being cast across this vast country of ours — are effectively always together. We talk daily about the happenings of Mizzou Football and college football at large. Conversations can range from “Who is Mizzou’s backup QB in 2024,” to, “How much money are they paying Cayden Green,” to, “What creative new ways can we find to insult Levi for having bad taste in steak?”

As a result, it’s difficult not to be influenced in our #taeks. After all, we’re a site that hosts some of the best analysts on the Mizzou Football beat. You listen to Nate recap his varied spreadsheets and tell him he’s wrong!

So, in light of the fact that Mizzou just wrapped up one its best seasons in program history, we want to hear from you before we launch into an entire offseason of pontificating. Who impressed you the most? Which position group held down the fort? Which win impressed you the most?

Below you’ll find a set of 5 questions that we’d generally do Rock M Roundtables on (and still might in the future) that we’ll be posing to you, the faithful readers of this here blog. Take a minute or two and file your answers and, if necessary, give us your thoughts in the comments if your choices aren’t amongst the available answers! Hell, go ahead and give us your thoughts even if your picks seem chalk. Who knows, maybe we’ll use some of them in a post coming up soon...

Question 1: Who was Mizzou’s MVP in 2023?

NCAA Football: Cotton Bowl-Missouri at Ohio State Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

This is pretty self-explanatory... who was the Most Valuable Player of Mizzou’s team during the 2023 season? We’ve heard quite a bit about Cody Schrader, who became the Tigers’ 15th consensus All-American this season, but he wasn’t the only player who was named to multiple All-American lists! Who contributed the most to Mizzou’s success this season?

A little less self-explanatory... what was the best win of the season? You can interpret that how you will: most important to the season, best overall play, your personal favorite, etc. Sure, Harrison Mevis hit a monster field goal... but Mizzou also thumped Tennessee and put a stranglehold on Ohio State!

Question 3: Who was Mizzou’s best newcomer (freshman or transfer) in 2023?

Mizzou had a lot of newcomers contribute meaningfully in 2023. Out of all the questions, this one was probably the hardest to narrow down to a list of contenders. Cam’Ron Johnson, Jordon Harris, Nyles Gaddy, Marvin Burks, Jr.... these and more provided meaningful production in their first year as Tigers. The question we pose to you: Who was the best of that important group?

Question 4: What was Mizzou’s best position group in 2023?

NCAA Football: Missouri at Vanderbilt Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports

Two of the most important positions on a football team (quarterback and running back) are islands, especially on great teams like Mizzou was this year. But everyone else on the roster has a unit they lean on. And Mizzou had plenty of impactful position groups in 2023. Which one, in your mind, was the most crucial to Mizzou’s success and performed the best?

Question 5: Which coach impressed you the most in 2023?

Cal Tobias/Rock M Nation

Do you value the CEO, his deputies or the managers that keep the trains running on time? That’s behind the heart of this question. Eli Drinkwitz, Blake Baker and Kirby Moore all got extensions and pay bumps due to the overall success of the team this year. But should we be looking outward? Let us know which of Mizzou’s coaches best performed his role on the sideline and on the practice field this year.
