Scott Roussel of Football Scoop is reporting that Toledo head coach Matt Campbell is expected to interview for the Missouri head coaching job soon .
Per sources, Toledo head coach Matt Campbell is expected to interview and is considered a strong candidate. Sources tell FootballScoop that Campbell, who is quite content at Toledo, would accept the opportunity to become the next head coach at Missouri if offered, adding, "and he’d be the exact leader that place needs. He’s a team builder. Strong personality that people gravitate towards."
Campbell has long been regarded as a strong recruiter and an excellent young coaching prospect. He became Tim Beckman's offensive coordinator at Toledo at age 30, then served as interim coach at the end of his second season there when Beckman took the Illinois job. He was 26-14 in his first three seasons on the job and is currently 9-1 in 2015. And yes, he's still only 35 years old.
His Rockets are hosting WMU shortly (11:00 a.m. CT on CBSSN); if they win, they take the MAC East title for the first time in the Campbell era.
A lot of us are pretty high on the idea of promoting Barry Odom to Missouri's head coaching position, but it goes without saying that the last Toledo coach Missouri brought aboard fared pretty well.
