Barry Odom's first huge recruiting weekend looms with new offers and quite a few visitors

Mizzou will be hosting a group of 2016 commits this weekend. I've been endeavoring to keep our Recruiting Big Board updated but here's a look at what's new on the recruiting front.

I've been keeping track of Mizzou's football scholarship count here and it looks like they're currently sitting at 82 if all the eligible players return from last year and the 13 current commits remain on board. That being said, it looks like Odom and staff are aiming for a larger class with the expectation that there could be players either transfer or decide to "step away" from football.

With that understood, Mizzou coaches have been scouring the country and have recently sent out a wave of new offers that I've been attempting to track. This list shouldn't be considered comprehensive and given what we know about college football recruiting, is subject to change at a moment's notice.

Go ahead and bookmark this page for the weekend and check back often!

Let us begin.

NEW OFFERS

Late last night, Josh Heupel secured the commitment of a key cog in Mizzou's 2016 class when former Boise State quarterback commit Micah Wilson flipped to the Tigers. Wilson is a legacy recruit as his father played for the Tigers next to Drew Lock's father, Andy, back in the late 80's.

Amir Watts, a 4* defensive tackle from Chicago, Illinois, reportedly just received an offer from Missouri after the staff had visited him a little while ago. With offer sfrom mostly B1G schools it'll be interesting if the staff is trying to sell playing in the SEC to him and other Big Ten footprint athletes.

Kelvin Lucky, a 3* defensive end from from Elmore, Alabama, reportedly has a new offer from Missouri. A 6'5" 230 lb athlete who's best offer is from Texas, he sounds like a "diamond in the rough" type prospect the staff could be looking to add, plus he's got a fantastic name.

Tyler Catalina, announced on twitter he'd received an offer from Missouri (along with Florida and Arizona). At 6'6" 298 lbs, he was a starting tackle at Rhode Island for the past three years, is a grad transfer who currently has signed a financial aid agreement with Matt Campbell's Iowa State. He'd have one year of eligibility remaining.

JJ Holmes, a 3* JUCO defensive tackle at Hutchinson C.C. (originally from Chipley, Florida), reportedly has a new offer and already has set up to visit on the final recruiting weekend.

Ken McLaurin, a 3* defensive tackle from Denton, Texas, currently committed to SMU, announced on twitter he received an offer from Missouri

Jay Jay McCargo, a 3* tackle from Arlington, Virginia, currently committed to North Carolina, announced on twitter he'd received an offer from Missouri yesterday,

Marquez Stevenson, a 3* receiver from Shreveport, Louisiana, currently committed to Houston, announced on twitter he'd received an offer from Missouri yesterday

WEEKEND VISITORS

Jerod Alton

A 3* from nearby Kirkwood, Missouri, the 5'10"/178 lb athlete will likely end up playing corner at Mizzou.

Christian Holmes

A 2* from Atlanta, Georgia the 6'1"/182 lb wide receiver/corner back will likely end up playing corner at Mizzou.

Trystan Castillo

A 3* from Webb City, Missouri, the 6'4"/280 lb lineman will likely end up playing guard at Mizzou. He was the first commit of the 2016 class but since Gary Pinkel retired, several other programs have been courting him.

Breontae Matthews

A 3* offensive lineman originally from Forestville, Maryland, the 6'6" 310 JUCO product is a mauler at offensive tackle.

That's hopefully good news coming on the heels of his official visit to campus.

Justin Crawford

A 3* JUCO RB from Senatobia, Mississippi, at 6'1"/200 lbs he looks like a Natereace Strong clone in terms of size. DeMontie Cross recently extended an offer to Crawford in an attempt to shore up the running back depth for this class.

Mizzou is already on Crawford's top 5 list

Arkeem Boyd

A 3* running back from Savannah, Georgia, the 6'1" 190 back fits the mold of a bigger back we think the staff is transitioning toward. UPDATE: It sounds like he will not be visiting this weekend.

London Iakopo

A 3* safety committed to Arizona, the 6'0"/200 lbs JUCO product out of Santa Ana, California picked up an early offer from the coaching staff and it looks like Greg Brown had something to do with that as Iakopo visited Louisville last week.

POSSIBLE CONSIDERATIONS

Nathan Rourke, an unranked Canadian quarterback who transferred to Elmore, Alabama (where Kelvin Lucky plays) for his senior season to boost his profile, was originally being recruited by Craig Kuligowski but recently followed/was followed by Josh Heupel and Joe Jon Finley, indicating he could be an option as the Tiger coaches look to add a quarterback to this recruiting class.

NO LONGER CONSIDERING

Running back Darius Anderson, announced on twitter yesterday he was committed to playing for the TCU Horned Frogs.

Offensive lineman Mackenzie Nworah, announced on twitter yesterday that he was committing to the Indiana Hoosiers.
