Jaevon McQuitty, DaRon Davis and Trevor Trout highlight Missouri's Junior Day visitors list

Let's take a look at the 2017 recruits who will be in town for Missouri's Junior Day this weekend. This list is certainly not comprehensive, and things can change rapidly with recruiting. Missouri has several offers to recruits in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas, and it's possible some of them make the trip to Columbia.

Missouri prospects

Name Pos H' H" Wt School State Offer 247 Composite
DaRon Davis WR 6 3 190 Hogan Prep MO Yes 4* (.8909)
Jaevon McQuitty WR 6 2 185 Battle MO Yes 3* (.8851)
Anthony Payne DE 6 2 255 Ray-Pec MO NR
Andrew Clair RB 5 9 170 St. Louis University MO
3* (.8556)
Peyton Jones DB 6 0 175 Archbishop O'Hara MO NR
Ryan Newton LB 6 3 230 Parkway North MO NR
Eli Ross LB 6 3 230 Staley MO NR
Dyllan Conway WR 5 8 160 Westminster MO NR
Chance May LB 6 1 210 Rockhurst MO NR

Perhaps things change within the next 24 hours but it doesn't appear that the number one recruit in the state, defensive end Chester Graves, will be able to make it to Missouri this weekend. He told us earlier this week it was due to a scheduling conflict with basketball.

Update:

Missouri will get a chance to see where it stands with DaRon Davis, who originally committed last November. By all accounts he remains solid to Missouri, but as Steven Godfrey points out here, being committed to a school for a long time gives other schools a lot of time and ammunition.

"What I've heard from kids we land early is that our rivals spend a full year attacking us. They don't have to sell themselves. They just have to attack us," an SEC assistant said. "You aren't selling your school, you're just creating doubt about another. So, now any game we lose, any other kid at the same position we offer (or an outlet says we offer), all that is sent back to the recruit. 'What do you think about this? See, they're a bad fit for you.'"

Jaevon McQuitty will be attending just a few days after picking up an offer, and the coaching staff can at least hope for an early commitment from the talent four-star who announced yesterday he was looking to make a decision soon:

The staff will also be hosting Anthony Payne, who gained a ton of attention for his athleticism at Nike's The Opening in Orlando. He came in fifth against a talented group of Florida athletes. The coaching staff will likely be evaluating him for an offer -- he fits as a pass rusher in Odom's aggressive scheme.

Linebacker Ryan Newton is also someone who could pick up a Mizzou offer. He's familiar with the program, having attending last year's Junior Day where he told Scout.com how Donavin Newsom, Aaron O'Neal and Anthony Gatti all came from Parkway North.

Local Prospects

Name Pos H' H" Wt School State Offer 247 Composite
Djimon Colbert DB 6 0 175 Bishop Miege KS 3* (.8852)
Jafar Armstrong WR 6 0 185 Bishop Miege KS
3* (.8778)
Trevor Kent DE 6 4 240 Pittsburg KS Yes 3* (.8578)
Kade Remsberg ATH 5 11 172 Newton KS 3* (.8556)

Missouri has invited four of the top-ranked recruits from Kansas, and they have confirmed with us they will attend. 247sports has Missouri in the lead for cornerback Djimon Colbert, but others have him as a heavily lean toward the Iowa Hawkeyes. Wide receiver Jafar Armstrong recently picked up an offer from Illinois and attended Kansas State's Junior Day earlier this month. A lot depends on the coaches' evaluations.

Hello, Belleville

Name Pos H' H" Wt School State Offer 247 Composite
Bryson Strong LB 5 10 193 Althoff Catholic IL
NR
Edwyn Brown DB 6 6 180 Althoff Catholic IL NR
C.J. Coldon WR 6 1 175 Althoff Catholic IL NR
Christian Willis DL 6 1 250 Althoff Catholic IL NR
Chris Branson LB 5 10 241 Althoff Catholic IL NR

I can't pretend to have insider information, but Missouri inviting essentially an entire high school's recruits to visit suggests the Tigers are interested in more than one prospect from Belleville (Ill.) Althoff Catholic. Edwyn Brown, a 6'6 cornerback, immediately stands out to me as a potential target, and Mizzou is likely looking to evaluate how he's recovering from foot surgery. But wide receiver CJ Coldon could also be in the hunt for a Mizzou offer.

Again, this list is incomplete and we'll look to update it as we learn more.

2018 Recruits

Name Pos H' H" Wt School State Offer 247 Composite
Kamryn Babb WR 6 1 182 CBC MO Yes NR
Dallas Craddieth DB 6 1 180 Florissant, Missouri MO Yes NR
Trevor Trout DT 6 3 295 Chaminade MO Yes NR
T.J. Kennedy OL 6 4 330 Lee's Summit MO NR

Trevor Trout seems like the big fish for the 2018 recruiting class, but he recently spoke with 11Warriors about his recruitment.

"They have (sent mail)," Trout said of Ohio State. "I'm interested. (Ezekiel Elliott) went there, and in St. Louis, he's one of the guys you look up to. They have great defensive linemen production and Columbus is a great place to play football."

Missouri's reputation as a defensive line powerhouse will factor in, but with defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski departing, it remains to be seen how new defensive line coach Jackie Shipp handles things. Trout has offers from Iowa and Indiana, along with his only SEC offer from Missouri, but with Ohio State knocking on the door his recruitment is sure to blow up.

With Missouri losing Josh Augusta, Ricky Hatley, and maybe Harold Brantley after his year, adding to the defensive line will be critical in the coming recruiting cycles. You can check out Trout's HUDL highlights here:
