Linebacker Cameron Wilkins has recorded 24 tackles for loss in the last two seasons for Del Valle (Tex.) High School and picked up an early offer from Missouri months ago. In early July, he told Rivals.com that he would soon be deciding between the Tigers and nearby Texas A&M. An offer from the Aggies never materialized, it appears, and on Friday, in the run-up to Night at the Zou, Wilkins became Mizzou’s sixth commitment.

Wilkins boasted offers from Purdue, Texas Tech, and a host of high-caliber mid-majors. The 6’2, 234-pound middle linebacker was an all-district performer at this 6A school, and I’m guessing his low- to mid-three-star rating (per the 247Sports Composite) has to do with either high-end athleticism or his potential as a DE/LB tweener (too big for LB, too small for DE).
It might be hard to get a read for his overall athleticism watching his highlight film, but the film does show one thing pretty clearly: the dude really, really likes to hit. That, plus the fact that the staff has liked him for a while, says pretty good things.
Friday night’s Night at the Zou festivities are huge for Mizzou’s recruiting momentum, and it appears the Tigers got a nice head start in that regard. WELCOME, CAMERON.
