3-star Louisiana nickel back Tyrus Wheat commits to Missouri

That’s EIGHT commits in six days. This class is going to be full by next week. (Okay, probably not.)

Okay, Mizzou, some of us have to make dinner here, so if you could cool it on the commits for a couple of hours...

Jokes aside, Mizzou just landed either the second safety or fourth linebacker in its 2018 class when Tyrus Wheat of Amite, La., announced his commitment on Wednesday.

Wheat boasts solid measurables: 4.59 40, 4.39 shuttle, 33-inch vertical. At 6’2, 194 pounds, he could potentially add weight and end up at linebacker (a lot of his highlights above take place near the line of scrimmage) or remain around 200 pounds and play safety. But knowing Missouri’s evolving defensive structure, the staff could see him as both, as a custom-made nickelback.

He is a true diamond-in-the-rough type, just barely a three-star prospect per 247Sports; he listed offers only from local schools like Jackson State, Houston Baptist, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas State, and Tulane.

Mizzou saw something in him, though, offering him back in early May. And with everybody else in the known universe committing to the Tigers this past week, he decided to pull the trigger as well.

Wheat is Missouri’s eighth commit since Friday morning, a pace that would, uh, fill up the class by next week. This is a torrid pace. WELCOME, TYRUS.
