I feel good that I didn’t do a scholarship update for today, but otherwise this is a bit of a sad news.
Torrence Watson has decided to transfer from the University of Missouri, and has entered the transfer portal. Verbal Commits was first with the news, and I was able to confirm with a Mizzou Spokesperson:
Missouri G Torrence Watson (JR) has entered the transfer portal. https://t.co/C5n44HBVtQ

For decades Missouri struggled to land the type of 4-star talent from Saint Louis, so when Torrence committed to Mizzou and Martin back in 2017, it was seen as a bit of an opening salvo for Cuonzo Martin and his recruiting in the Gateway City.
And after some flashes late in his freshman season, it looked like Watson was going to be a fixture in the backcourt in the coming years. However his offensive struggles last year landed him in and out of the rotation as Martin searched for stability in his offense. They even toyed with redshirting Watson this past year as a way to allow him to mentally reset. But it wasn’t meant to be.
So Torrence joins Mark Smith (who has already committed to Kansas State), Parker Braun, Ed Chang, and Xavier Pinson in the portal. After remaking the culture of Missouri basketball for the last four years, Cuonzo Martin now has to completely remake his roster as Watson’s exit leaves the team with four open scholarships going into next season.
We’ll have more coverage on what this might mean for the roster in the coming days.
