Christian Holmes signed with Missouri on February 3 and is heading from the heart of SEC country to Columbia this fall. A jack of all trades at McNair High School in Atlanta, Georgia, Holmes played quarterback, wide receiver, and safety. I was able to catch up with Holmes and interview him about himself and what it means to officially be a Missouri Tiger.
***
Ethan Triebsch: Tell us a little bit about yourself, your life, and your background.
Christian Holmes: I'm the youngest out of four, two brothers, one sister. Born in St. Louis, Missouri. Raised in Houston, Texas and Leland, Mississippi.
What got you into football?
My brother Johnathan got me into the game. He was so darn good and people treated him like a celebrity so you know, I was sneak-hating.
When did you start playing football?
I started playing football in the 11th grade. I tried to play my 10th grade year but couldn't make Varsity nor much of JV. I worked my tail off the summer before 11th grade and knew I could go to a football state (Georgia) and dominate competition. I stepped out on faith and started receiving offers in January after the season and SEC recognition in May! It was literally unbelievable!
Who do you look up to?
I look up to my parents in the life perspective and I look up to Kenya Dennis in the sports perspective.
Which football player did you grow up wanting to be?
I started watching football in the 7th grade. I'm a die-hard Texans fan (yes, the Matt Schaub days). Andre Johnson was role model! I clearly didn’t want to be him, but I loved him! He's my favorite player.
What made you pick Mizzou?
I picked Mizzou not for the SEC, but for the winning tradition and the coaching staff . When I sat and talked to each coach, I knew it was a go; didn't take me long to think about it afterwards. The campus and MATC and Rec center was just a plus.
What is your major?
I will major in Project Management but in no specific field so I can range my line in work.
What was going through your mind as you signed with Mizzou on National Signing Day?
There was a lot going through my head, but the coaching staff left me no choice; coaches are like father figures, each one of them. I had to follow my heart.
What do you want your role to be at Mizzou?
I want to contribute anyway possible for Coach Brown! That is my man! We want to win! Win a national championship at that. So I'm down for whatever!
Great home visit with my main man , Coach Brown ! #GoTigers pic.twitter.com/ZTwIZLYmOG

How do you prepare for a football game?
Before I leave the house, I have to wake up to my daily stretch, followed by looking over my competition one last time. Pregame I have to get the love of my life written on my tape and I have to place a tootsie roll in my socks. I have to eat my pack of fruit snacks and have the song War on repeat!
Christian is an athletic, quick ballhawk at corner. Check out his highlights to see why:#MizzouMade #MIZNSD16 https://t.co/7ug0yZePLZ
