What's On
Mack Rhoades talks about The Search.
The Trib (David Morrison): Mack Rhoades on the Coaching Search
The Trib: Q&A with Missouri Athletic Director Mack Rhoades
Q: Legend has it ADs keep a list in their wallet of candidates at all times. First of all, can we see that?
A: Let me answer that first: no.
Q: Where do you keep it?
A: We all do have a list. And, probably, mine’s in the third drawer behind "prospective head coaches."
Q: More seriously, in a certain odd way, this has happened abruptly but also you had some advance reason to be thinking about this after Gary told you in May. What kind of impact did that have on you and you kind of marshalling your forces about getting ready for this?
A: Well, when Coach Pinkel told me about his health concern in May, and as time proceeded along, I certainly didn’t believe it would come to where he resigned as he did. But, late October, when he told me he was going to resign, absolutely. I, we, begin to do just some internal research on potential names, candidates of that sort.

PowerMizzou: MACK RHOADES TALKS COACHING SEARCH
PowerMizzou: The Rhoades Map
"I'm certainly partial to Tom Herman since I hired him at my previous institution. I think he's a terrific coach. And Justin Fuente is another terrific coach that's won a lot of games at a place that's hard to win. But I want to caution everybody, I'm not locked into any certain candidate whatsoever," Rhoades said. "With all due respect to Tom Herman does he have that same success at another school? He was a great fit at the University of Houston. Justin Fuente, great fit at Memphis. So for us here, it's about fit. I'm not into the hottest names out there, and those are certainly two of them. That doesn't mean that they'll automatically come here, be a great fit and win games here."

Post-Dispatch: Pinkel wants recruits to consider his successor
"It’s always a difficult time for them, too … difficult explaining whoever’s going to get the job, could be internal, could be outside of our program, we don’t know," he said. "We have no idea. I generally tell (recruits) that they should keep their options open but certainly whoever gets the job, because you love Mizzou, whoever gets the job you should at least listen to, talk to them and see how you feel." [...]
"I told them to call me anytime, the next few weeks, if you need me for absolutely anything," he said. "I had a couple call-backs (Tuesday) night and that’s pretty much the direction. Our athletic director, Mack Rhoades, is probably going to give them a call next week. It’s difficult for everybody. … They were very caring and remarkably kind to me, (and asked), ‘Are you OK, Coach?’ All those things. It was pretty moving talking to them."
