What's On
E.J.!
StLouisRams.com: Scout's Tale: E.J. Gaines
I’m now working as an area scout, and one of the schools I’m responsible for is University of Missouri (Mizzou). E.J. Gaines was a player that I got to track during his career at the university. E.J. played well this season, and for that reason I often am asked how a guy like that falls to the sixth round. Sometimes those questions are hard to answer, and I just know the Rams are fortunate he did.
He ran a solid 40 time. He had incredible production. He was a senior who came out and played well over the course of his career. He wasn’t one of those juniors that was pushed up through the offseason process. He was just a really steady football player who did his job extremely well in the nation’s most competitive conference. For whatever reason, he was overlooked.

This baseball team...
Because of recent seasons' lack of success, and because of the strange drama regarding Tim Jamieson's contract expiration (as in, it's about to expire, and nobody has any idea if it's going to get renewed), we've almost been anticipating a downfall at some point. Mizzou has dropped the first game of each of the last three series, and each time, I (and others) have had a general "Uh oh, here we go..." dread feeling. And in those last three series, Mizzou has proceeded to go 5-1 the rest of the respective weekends. The result: Mizzou is one game out of the SEC East lead and resides in third place in the conference overall.
East
1. Vanderbilt (11-4)
3. Missouri (10-5)
5. Florida (8-6)
7. Georgia (6-8)
7. South Carolina (6-8)
11. Kentucky (5-8)
14. Tennessee (5-10)
Tanner Houck continues to amaze, and Mizzou has now scored at least five runs in four of its last five games. And people are noticing.
.@MizzouBaseball is a scary, scary club right now. #Tigers starting to hit, and with that pitching staff, woah. #MU up 10-1 in the 8th on UT

A big, eventful #Stubble series win
So two noteworthy things happened at University Field this weekend: Mizzou took a key series from Mississippi State, and Ehren Earleywine got himself ejected and suspended for two games for losing his mind after a bad call.

Sunday's win kept Mizzou ahead of Mississippi State in the middle part of the SEC standings.
1. Auburn (12-3)
2. LSU (11-4)
3. Florida (10-4)
4. Alabama (10-5)
5. Georgia (11-7)
6. Tennessee (8-7)
6. Texas A&M (8-7)
6. Missouri (8-7)
9. Mississippi State (9-9)
10. Kentucky (4-10)
11. Ole Miss (5-13)
12. South Carolina (4-11)
13. Arkansas (1-14)
The sweep over South Carolina to start SEC play remains key, and in theory, with the pitching stabilized a bit and the offense still raking, this team could still threaten for fifth place or so. And obviously fifth in the SEC is nothing to sneeze at. Regardless, a series loss would have meant Mizzou was alone in ninth.
Oh yeah, and the ejection.
Genovese on Earleywine's ejection: "I loved it. I loved every second of it, because that was the worst call in America."
