Mizzou Links: Tigers advance in Hoover, and THE FAUROT STATUE IS GONE

Reggie McClain looked great as Missouri took down South Carolina in the SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover. Next up for the Tigers: Vanderbilt, against whom Mizzou is winless since joining the SEC. Also: K.J. Walton has signed and will probably qualify, and ... THE FAUROT STATUE IS GONE! THE FAUROT STATUE IS GONE!

One win down, maybe one more to go.

While the Gamecocks are done for the season, the eyes in Hoover now turn to the Tigers, who will send freshman righthander Tanner Houck to the mound against Vanderbilt on Wednesday.

As for the Tigers’ postseason chances? I still feel like Missouri needs another win or two in Hoover to feel comfortable. Missouri does now have 16 total wins against SEC competition this spring, which is really impressive. But the Tigers also still have poor marks vs. RPI Top 25, 50 and 100 teams, and also possess an unimpressive RPI of 51, a number that certainly would improve several spots with a win over the Commodores, who swept them in Nashville a few weeks ago.

Missouri is closer to punching its ticket, but there’s still work to be done.

Our friend and fellow SBNer PodKATT takes loads of photos each year in Hoover. He's responsible for the Reggie McClain picture above. Here's his Day 1 photo album.

How did a player ranked so high last this long without committing elsewhere? There were concerns early in the process about Walton’s academic standing, but [Brownsburg coach Steve] Lynch said he’s made progress toward securing his eligibility.

"K.J. makes you sweat it all out," Lynch said, "but I’m feeling he’s over the hump at this point."
