Mizzou Links: SEC Media Days are over, and the Mizzou-Arkansas rivalry heats up slowly

New, comments

Nick Saban is exasperated, and with a few more football games like last year's (and a few more basketball games like the ones we've had so far), people will stop asking "When will Mizzou-Arkansas become a rivalry?"

CBS Sports: SEC Media Days: Could Arkansas, Missouri become legitimate rivals?

"Well," Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk said when asked if his team's now-annual series with Arkansas had become a rivalry, "it does have 'Kansas' in it."

Mauk's reference to the Jayhawks illustrates that as happy as the Tigers are in their still-new(ish) home in the SEC, there's still something missing from Missouri's schedule these days: an honest-to-God, turn-up-the-intensity, legitimate SEC rival. That point was only driven home by Pinkel's comments on Kansas at SEC Media Days on Wednesday, when he argued (again) that the two sides should work out their scheduling differences and renew one of the sport's oldest series.

"We've got to find a way," he said. "I think both fanbases would love it."

Mitchell said he was reading at about a junior-high level when he joined Georgia’s football team. Mitchell knew he couldn’t survive college courses if he didn’t become a better reader, so he started putting his nose in a book whenever he could.

Then Mitchell had a chance encounter with a woman named Kathy Rackley in the Barnes & Noble in Athens, Georgia. During a conversation about books, Rackley told him that she belonged to a monthly book club. Mitchell told her he’d love to attend. The only problem: The club was made up of women aged 40 or older.

Mitchell, who turns 23 on Monday, started attending the meetings anyway.

Q. Coach, do you still have an amicable relationship with John Chavis, and what kind of impact do you think he'll have at Texas A&M?

COACH MILES: John has been a great guy for us, and I have great respect for him, just a tremendous person. You suspect that he will coach great defense at A&M.
