So this was a little bit of a Sunday surprise:
The Trib: Tolton power forward Jontay Porter commits to Washington
I'm making my verbal commitment to the University of Washington! #GoHuskies
— Jontay Porter (@JontayPorter) August 2, 2015
My brother @JontayPorter just committed to Washington
— Michael Porter Jr. (@m1chael_porter) August 2, 2015
That's Michael Porter Jr.'s younger brother, a sophomore-to-be, committing to Washington. It's about 14 months until Michael can sign anywhere and more than two years before his own signing date.
This cannot in any way be seen as a good thing when it comes to Michael's recruitment; UW's Lorenzo Romar is a family friend and has long been considered a threat to land Michael's services (he tried to hire Michael's father not too long ago). That Michael eagerly retweeted both that and this tweet from his good friend Trae Young...
Great talk with Coach Romar! Honored to Receive an Offer from the University of Washington⚪️ #Huskies
— Trae Young (@TheTraeYoung) August 2, 2015
...certainly suggests that UW is and will remain a threat in his own recruitment.
Still ... it's still going to be a while before anything permanent happens regarding the recruitment of any of these three. On the list of Mizzou Basketball Concerns, this one's not in the top 10 at the moment. It's on the list, but it's not near the top. For now, I'll just scratch my head my head for now and congratulate Jontay.

Kids gonna be a sophomore, beat his older brother to a commitment. Ok, whatever dude. Long way to go.
— Sam Snelling (@SamSnellingRMN) August 2, 2015
Honestly, can’t be mad about missing out on a 2018 kid, his recruitment hasn’t even started and he’s committing? Ok man.
— Sam Snelling (@SamSnellingRMN) August 2, 2015
You have to know that UW was always going to be alluring to the Porters, Romar is family. But an awful lot of early commits don’t work out.
— Sam Snelling (@SamSnellingRMN) August 2, 2015
And Romar isn't on the most solid of ground there the last few years, he might not have a job in 2018. https://t.co/yr4Gb9erXI

For that matter, KA may not either. The 2018-19 season is a long way away.
— Sam Snelling (@SamSnellingRMN) August 2, 2015
I’m probably not even going to bother updating the hot board on this one, when I get around to it. 2018 commitments? Nah.
— Sam Snelling (@SamSnellingRMN) August 2, 2015
Romar has gone (’15) 16-15, (’14) 17-15 and (’13) 18-16 his last three seasons. Seat may not be hot, but can’t be that cool.

Pretty much.
